Still Going Strong

THIRTEEN YEARS- We love this bar!
Harley's Country Store and Beer Garden celebrates a thirteen years of business this year. The honky Tonk opened on Sadie Hawkin's Day 2004. The legendary John "Harley" Nolan opened the business with his wife, Sylvia who continues to operate it today along with her daughter Calida and her husband Jim.
This Texas Honky Tonk is open seven days a week, but it is Saturday and Sunday when people flock there for the music and the home-style BBQ. Bushriders Dave play mostly 60-70 music on Saturday and Wildcat Thicket play mostly country on Sunday. But don't be surprised if you come on a Wednesday and hear picking from the jam session going on in the bar or a Friday afternoon when you might catch Rande Hall on his keyboard in the dancehall.
Out in Bayview Texas away from the big towns and cities sitting on the third resacca on the left as you come down Shafer Road off Ted Hunt with the gate wide open inviting in cars, motor cycles, pickup trucks, bicycles and even horses is this very unique Texas treasure. There are birds, dogs and plenty of country sounds.
There is lots of seating. You can sit around the bar and talk with the locals about anything from politics to the answers in Jeoardy. Or there is the dancehall with its long wooden tables that invite you to meet new friends. Outside is a deck to the north with picnic tables and a raised deck on the south where you can sit on a comfy cushion or an Adirondack chair.
Saturday and Sunday you can find Jim at the three grills fixing up chicken, pork and sometimes even some wild pig, venison or other fresh catch for the BBQ. Sylvia makes big pan of beans. Everyone is welcome to bring a dish to share so each week there is plenty to sample, all for a donation .
Beer is sold by the bucket, the pitcher or the glass. Wine and set-ups are also for sale.
If the walls could talk, the tales would start back 13 years ago when this former city dump was turned into a country store and beer garden. Flash forward to crowds in the hundreds coming by to enjoy a cool one, dance and meet up with friends. Everyone waits to see Willie Nelson stop by one day, but in the meanwhile, Nashville 's Tom Buller, and Luckenbach 's ShAnnie have played on the stage, to name two of many.
So come out to Harley's and meet some new friends, listen to some amazing music and relax along the resacca.

Harley's is a well kept secret shared by us "Locals". Safely hidden on "The Poor Side Of Bayview" (properties just below a couple of million) you will find a wonderful respite to The Hot Texas Sun. Warm hellos and Ice Cold Long Necks welcome all who can find the place among the Citrus and Farmland of Bayview. The road there reminded us of the roads in Mexico where speed bumps have replaced speed limit signs. Harley's is also renowned for it's Sunday Pot Luck Supper and Live Band playing Texas Two Step at its best. Kudo's to Jan and Jim and the gang for keeping a Texas Tradition Alive. Well worth your time to stop by and see for yourself. Enjoy!

Good music! Live bands in Saturday & sundays pot luck on same days. You can't go wrong . Bring snacks and your own liqueur. They sell beer wine and mixers. Pets are welcome on leash. People are great pets better! Food is off the charts. Great BBQ Texas style and southern Texas style hospitality. One place you don't want to miss. Bikers are always welcome!

So the locals in South Padre Island recommended going to this place in the middle of nowhere. I was apprehensive but my business partner was all about it. Let me tell you it was awesome. The locals in there were a hoot and they were all really friendly. I would definitely recommend going. You have to experience it atleast once if you are in the area.

Husband and I took a drive here on a dismal Sunday afternoon and found what we were looking for; a true Texan country bar. The country band Bushwackers has some talent, not to mention the amazing fiddle player. They had brisket outside in the smoker along with other fixings which is open to all, just give a donation. Great people and dancing. Trail riders come thru on their horses. So glad we wandered off of South Padre to find this place. Go kick up your heels!

Went for a Sunday afternoon with some friends, and had a great time. This place is in the country, just outside of Bayview Tx. From the outside it may not look like much, but once inside, the true character comes alive. We arrived around 2:30, and the place was just starting to fill up, by 3:00 the place was full, and it was standing room only! The band started shortly after 3, and right away people were up dancing and having a good time. They sell Beer, Wine, and set-ups for those who bring their own hard liquor. The band was country, beer was cold, atmosphere was very friendly. Not sure when they shut down, but most people stayed till 6ish, or a little later. They also smoked some meat, and had a bunch of sides, that go with it, for all to enjoy, with a small donation being appreciated. Crowd is Winter Texans, on a mission! If you have the time, I suggest you give it a try for some fun times! -Winnipeg, Canada

.....off the beaten path is a true back country bar with a lot of old fashioned character; a live band starting at noon followed by another band around 4pm and a bar b que; the beer was cold and the dance floor rocked ; lots of Harley Davidsons parked in the lot and quite a good crowd; souvineer t-shirts & stuff also sold here; the bar actually reminded me of the bar which the Blues Brothers played in when the chichen wire was hung across the front of the stage to stop the garbage that the crowd threw at the band members; you just have to see to believe it!!
